Before the Candles and Photos, There Is Something I Need to Say on My Son’s Birthday

Today is my little boy’s birthday. And before the candles, before the photos, before the familiar “where did the time go?”—there’s something I need to say.

The day he came into my life, everything changed. Not in a loud, movie-scene kind of way, but in a quiet shift that rearranged my entire heart. Suddenly, the smallest things became the biggest: a tiny laugh, sleepy eyes, a hand wrapped around my finger like it had always belonged there.

When Birthdays Meet the Real World

Birthdays have a way of reminding us of joy—but also of the world outside our doors. A world that sometimes looks at what’s different and decides to step back. A world that can be quick to judge, slow to understand, and even slower to celebrate what doesn’t fit the usual mold.

My son doesn’t need pity.
He doesn’t need to be “fixed.”

He needs what every child deserves: love, respect, and the freedom to be seen.

Why Kindness Matters More

Difference is not a reason to withhold kindness. It’s a reason to practice it more deliberately. To pause, to learn, and to choose compassion even when it would be easier not to.

My son’s life is not defined by how others label him. It is defined by his heart, his courage, and the joy he brings simply by being himself.

A Small Request With Big Meaning

So today, if you’re reading this, help me fill his day with something simple and powerful: a birthday wish. A few words. A little light.

Leave a “Happy Birthday” in the comments—loud enough for a world that sometimes forgets how to be gentle.

Thank you for celebrating with us.
