Doctor Injects Only Half Her Face with Botox — And The Internet Can’t Stop Watching
When it comes to cosmetic procedures, most people stick to before-and-after photos. But California-based aesthetics expert Dr. Bita Farrell took things a big step further — by injecting only one side of her face with Botox to show exactly how it works in real life.
Her bold, self-experiment quickly went viral, and it’s easy to see why: the side-by-side results are both fascinating and a little eerie.
One Side Paralyzed, One Side Expressive
Botox, a popular treatment used to smooth out wrinkles, works by temporarily relaxing the muscles beneath the skin. That means fewer frown lines, softer folds, and sometimes even a subtle lift. The effects typically last 3 to 4 months.
To demonstrate its power, Dr. Farrell — who teaches at UCLA and has hundreds of thousands of followers on Instagram and Facebook — injected Botox into just the right side of her lower face, leaving the left side completely untreated.
Two weeks later, she posted a video of the results. Her facial muscles on the treated side couldn’t move much at all. Meanwhile, the untreated side moved normally — smiling, frowning, and pulling her features downward with every expression.
“I’m really trying to pull this side!” she laughs in the clip, straining to move the muscles that had been frozen by Botox.
A Clear Visual Lesson
Dr. Farrell used the video to explain the muscle mechanics behind facial aging — and how Botox can influence it. By relaxing the muscles that normally pull the face downward, other muscles that lift the face become more prominent. The result: a lifted cheek, softer lines around the nose and mouth, and even a sharper jawline.
“This cheek rides a bit higher… this nasolabial fold seems softer,” she points out in the video.
And yes, she did eventually inject the other side — “to even things out,” she joked.
The Internet Reacts
The response online was huge. Many praised her for showing Botox’s effects so clearly, without filters or fancy editing.
“This is an amazing demonstration,” wrote one viewer.
“I’m actually shocked to see how big of a difference it makes.”
Some, however, preferred her natural side.
“It’s funny, but I think the side you didn’t inject looks better,” one commenter noted.
“So… one side looks paralyzed. Is that good?” another asked.
And a few critics were less kind, accusing her of going too far just for attention.
“Why would a doctor turn herself into a clown for social media likes?” one wrote.
