We Are Orphans, and Today Is Our Birthday

Today is our birthday.

There is no big party.

No pile of gifts.

No room full of people singing loudly around a cake.

But there is today.

We are orphans—not because we chose to be, but because life sometimes takes more than it gives. We’ve learned to grow up faster, to be strong quietly, and to carry memories that still ache on certain days like this one.

Birthdays can be complicated for us.

They remind us of what’s missing.

Of who isn’t here.

Of the hugs that live only in memory.

Still, today matters.

It matters because we are here. Because we survived. Because even without parents to guide us, we continue to hope, to learn, and to believe that kindness still exists in the world.

We’re not asking for gifts.

Not for money.

Not for attention.

Just a kind message.

A simple “Happy Birthday.”

A reminder that someone sees us.

A few words that tell us we’re not alone today.

Sometimes, the smallest kindness carries the greatest weight.

If you’re reading this and you have a moment—please know that your words can mean more than you imagine. They can turn a quiet birthday into one that feels a little warmer, a little lighter, and a little less lonely.

Thank you for reading.

Thank you for caring.

And thank you—for reminding us that family can sometimes be found in unexpected places.

Today is our birthday.

And your kindness is more than enough. 💛
